Sometimes it's just too hard to say goodbye...

I haven't been posting on my blog lately, but... I just felt like I had to do this for whatever reason. My dog has just passed away. It was cancer. She was eleven years old, and she was one of the most amazing friends I could have had. She was quiet, and well behaved, and always there if I needed a cuddle. And now she's gone.

I'm pretty depressed by it.

But she had a happier life than she would have if we hadn't taken her, and we had her "put to sleep" before her condition got too bad. I guess this story is a happy one, even if I don't quite feel that way just now.

A Quick Update

WoW, I didn't see that one coming:
I'm going to be posting here a lot more often guys; I've quit WoW... again... I won't get into the reason behind it too much, but I just wasn't really having fun. On the bright side, I have more time to make games since I won't really be playing any.

Even more Untitled Zombie Shooting:
The project getting most of my attention is Untitled Zombie Shooter. I have a lot of really cool ideas for that game, and while my planned move to a new, higher quality graphical style means I won't be getting new releases out as often as I'd like, I still think it will be worth it. The new style can be seen below:
I currently have 5 or so bosses planned for a first area, as well as some weapon types. I won't say too much on that (spoilers, you know), but I can safely say it's going to be pretty cool. I just hope the rest of the team get involved, because I'm running out of cool ideas. ><

More WoW, more college, more UZS

World of Warcraft - I've got some enchants on my guy, and got into a raiding guild. Not ready to raid with them yet (still need to replace a few iLevel 333 items) but I am pretty confident that I should be raiding with them soon. Multiple distruptions yesterday meant I didn't get any Heroics completed, but I think today should be different.

College - I'm in college now, actually. We're doing a lot of prep for an exam coming up in two weeks, so I'm pretty bored and pretty stressed out. Gonna be able to come in on Mondays and Tuesdays now (hopefully) so I should have enough time to get everything in on time.

Untitled Zombie Shooter - For the past few weeks, I have been thinking about UZS a lot. It may have something to do with my picking up WoW again, but I want UZS to be largely online, with leveling, "gear", grouping, that sorts of thing. Now, I won't make this game quest based, that's definately not what I want; but I really want groups of people working together to take down a variety of undead bosses.

I want to keep this post as short as possible, so I won't say any more on that right now. I'll probably type something out and make some demonstrations, and post a link later. But yeah, thanks for reading.

Feel free to post any opinions you have on the idea, or the blog in general, and have a great day. ^-^

World of Warcrack, UZS, College

Hey guys, bit of a late post but I've not been doing much lately.

As you know, I am now spending large amounts of my free time on World of Warcrack, again. I have been gearing up a Blood Elf Death Knight (I know, shut up) for tanking (yeah, keep laughing) so that I can pick up raiding. Hopefully, this time, I will actually do some raiding. You see, in Wrath the furthest I got was a few weeklies and ToC. Slowly but surely I've been gearing my guy up, and here is my armory page. As you can see, I'm pretty close to being raid-ready.

Other than WoW, two things have been taking up my time and neither are all that interesting; Untitled Zombie Shooter and college work.

In UZS, I have finally implemented the "zombies work by sound" thing I wanted. When you shoot, zombies will hear you. If they get too close, they will hear you. Unfortunately, trying to design levels with this in mind with the brutal difficulty I want isn't proving to be easy. I'm considering increasing the range that zombies can hear gunshots by a lot.

College work is just that, work for college. I've been trying to catch up for a while now, and I'm finally getting there. Not much to say on that really, other than the fact it is really boring... Like this blog entry.

And that's all for now. Will try and post more often guys, but I can't guarantee anything at the moment.

New, quick, kinda buggy game

New game! This one was realy quick, just thought of the idea and made it. There is a bug, but it doesn't happen too often so I'm not too bothered by it. Just be aware that if you get stuck in a block/blocks, I know about that and am working to fix it.

So the start menu (above) is pretty simple (honest!) Click the red square and you can change the players colour (textboxes for now I'm afraid), yellow for floor, and black for background. Click the "Click here to play." button to play, durrrr.

Floor blocks are randomly generated and are constantly falling. The game has no difficulty curve yet, the game either loves you or hates you. You need to try and stay on the screen for as long as possible.

As you can see, the game can get pretty trippy if you choose horrendous colours like I just did... I don't advise doing so.

Oh! Quick heads up; expect some news on Untitled Zombie Shooter in the near future, I've been working on that for a while and anticipate a new demo or video to be released shortly.

Being A Teenager Sucks...

Okay, I'm 18 so I'm not going to be a teenager for much longer, but it still sucks. I am currently going to college 2 and a half days a week, and my parents are trying to pressure me into getting a job. I don't have time for that, I barely have enough time left to get my college work done.

Another trouble teenagers are plagued with; unrequited love. I love a girl who I know can never love me, and even if I don't see her current relationship working; she won't leave her guy for me. She loves him, not me. It's hard, coming to terms with that, to just give up on her. I fought so hard, so long, trying to show her we could work, that if she left him for me it would be a good choice, but she loves him more.

When I'm feeling down, I listen to Taylor Swift... or classical music. Here's one of my favourite TS songs right now:

WTF?!

Why can't I just post something on this blog each day? Like, I could say about how I picked WoW up again a week or two ago (yeah, that's why I've been so quiet lately). Levelled my Death Knight to 85, done some Heroics as Unholy DPS, now trying to get back into tanking. See? That wasn't hard!

Enigami Games is working on a new game. The rest of the team don't know that yet, but I can guarantee that even the ones who stopped working (they never quit, just lost interest) will care about this one. I can't tell you any more on that project yet, it's supposed to be a suprise. The current name is "Little Heroes Online", but that'll change once more information is released.

The graphic style we'll be working with

LHO might be real-time (WoW isn't fully real-time) with players pressing a button to melee attack, cast spells etc. The cutesy graphic style does not mean the game's story will be childish or light-hearted; quite the opposite I imagine. I just like messing with peoples' heads.

Back On Track!

Sorry I've not been posting much; my personal life has been getting in the way (and no, I couldn't blog about it ¬¬). Long story short; I'm going to be posting a lot more often now (hopefully once a day). Not been working on games too much because of college and personal issues, but I have got a new website design underway.

I've also been thinking a lot about Untitled Zombie Shooter, so you can expect to see news (and possibly a new download) of that pretty soon.

The Girl of My Dreams [Poem]

Warning, cheesey poetry incoming!

You say "in your dreams", I say "you're probably right"
I had another dream about that girl, last night
She's the girl of my dreams, perfect in all ways
She won't think about me, I think of her always
She's the one I admire, the girl I adore
When we stop talking, I always wish I'd said more
I think I'll stop there, I promise I'm done
I think I might love her, but I don't think I'm "the one"

A post a day, eh?

Okay, so clearly posting once a day, every day just isn't going to work for me. I keep getting distracted and procrastinate way too much for that My life is far to busy for that. PC6 has made little progress since I restarted this whole blogging thing, so BLAAAAAAAAAAGH

That is all, for now. :3

Lights Out, Let's Party!!

I haven't coded any sort of HUD yet... Shut up! >_>

For my project at college I had to make a 3x3 "Lights Out!" puzzle. This took me about 15 minutes... So I decided to make it look nicer. That took another 2 minutes. Now I'm bored, so I figured I'd write a blog entry about how bored I am. I am really... really bored...

Didn't get much done on PC6 last night (got home late), and haven't done anything yet today (at college), but I firgured I could use that lights out puzzle somewhere in Aspiria... but with something magic that isn't lights... obviously. >_>

PC6: Pineapple Chunks?

PC6, also known as Pineapple Chunks 6, is the newest (and still very much incomplete) engine for Aspiria. The engine will use chunks from PC5, but restructured to make it cleaner, more efficient, and easier to work with. PC6 will also have more features, and because a lot of the engine is being completely rewritten things are going very slowly.

Room transitions that are a bit more like Pokemon... maybe...

For the next few days (or even weeks) I will be putting a lot of time into completing PC6 and will give daily updates so everybody can see what's going on. I don't know when I'll have a playable demo out, but it'll hopefully be soon.

Dubloon!

So there's this game; Dubloon. You probably haven't played it, but you should. Dubloon is the game that first inspired me to make Aspiria, really. I thought, if Banov can make an awesome RPG, so can I.

After deciding to completely change the story for Aspiria, I decided to go with an idea I had way before I had heard of Dubloon. That game was loosely based on pirates, the navy, and sea travel. Those aspects are being made into a major part of the game, which means of course it will now seem a lot like Dubloon.

That wasn't intentional...

Anyway, I'm going to be playing Dubloon for a while. See what they did right (and wrong, maybe), and to learn off it. I'm going for a slightly different kind of gameplay and a totally different story and art style, but I could learn a few things from this wonderful game.

So yeah, check out Dubloon, leave comments here on what you think of the game, and tell me what you did or didn't like that I should try and use or avoid.

Thursday 3 February 2011

Aspiria is Enigami Games' attempt at a Final Fantasy styled RPG. The game has gone through many very large changes since it was originally started back in 2009 under the name of "Disposal", but this time I am considering taking a step back to it's past 2D glory.

In late 2010, Aspiria went through it's biggest change; it went from 2D to 3D. This change was met with almost solely positive comments from people inside and outside of the Dev Team. There was nobody who disagreed with the move; but who could say no to the adorable charm of the picture above?
However, the 3D new engine isn't without its drawbacks. The game is alot more complicated now, and even though characters clothing can look more different now than it ever could in 2D, this comes with a cost; framerate. While the drop isn't noticable in play, the framerate does indeed suffer even with only the player and a few trees present.

Before the new engine, we (the Dev Team) rewrote the entire story. Our favourite characters were kept but received heavy nerfing. Any ridiculous concepts or characters were removed and rules were put in place to stop the same nonsense occurring a second time. The new story works off the basic premise behind an old RPG project of mine, but with major changes. The story isn't being changed here.

The new (3D) Aspiria engine follows a slightly more action-based format, like Zelda. The old 2D one was more like Final Fantasy; turn-based. While I like the idea of the 3D engine, I also really liked the 2D one alot. The engine for the 2D one was being rewritten to be tidier, and allowed alot more freedom and was alot further than the new one. It didn't look to bad either, in my opinion.

The problem is, I'm not sure whether or not to change. I'll be thinking about this one alot, I know that. Any comments on the matter will be much appreciated, either on the Escapist, on the Forum, or in the comments section below.

UZS Engine

Yes, I have finally stopped using that horrible tiny font. Haha!

So you might of heard of Untitled Zombie Shooter. If not, it's just a topdown shooting game where you kill zombies. Very simple right now. Anyway, the UZS Engine is actually going to be the platform for at least one other planned game, and will act as practice for other things I want to do in the future. It currently has 3 gun types, some zombies, and some blood. There isn't really a whole lot more you could ask for right now.

The engine was actually started quite a while ago, and I recently got back to it. There still isn't alot to do (even when compared to the first release), but it is good fun. The version out now, which can be downloaded from here, is the basics of a mode I have yet to name. It won't be called Survival, that's being used elsewhere.

So yeah, feel free to give it a go. :3
